Apology on Behalf of the Lantern

Dear Eastern Students,

I would like to make note on the October 31st Issue of the Campus Lantern “claps and slaps.” There have been many heated discussions on the particular slap towards the death of the Uconn Football player. Some were offended. Some didn’t care. Either way, I’ve heard both sides and would like to make some clarifications.

The purpose of the “Claps and Slaps” is to express joy and anger towards variety of issues going around on Campus and around the world. This is why it was established as a slap. Furthermore, the decisions that lead to the rough draft of the 1st set of “Claps and Slaps” (Including the Uconn Football Player part) was established based on those criteria.

I’m in agreement that the issue was of poor taste due to how recent it was. In that sense, it may have been disrespectful, but not with intention.

As Editor-In-Chief, I would like to make an apology for offending those who felt that it was a bit too much. The overall decision of the Clap and Slap of that particular issue had concluded to be removed, but failed too, due to a communication break down and was left in the paper.

Thank you,
Dan
